About Me

Hi! I'm Steve, and I've spent over 15 years working with students in areas ranging from math to writing, test preparation to personal statements, dissertations to research proposals. I earned my PhD in archaeology from University College London, then moved to Barcelona to pursue a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship researching the social and environmental prehistory of Central Asia. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to help others pursue their own academic trajectories—whether as a tutor and test-prep instructor for students in the US and abroad, as a graduate teaching assistant in my own field, or as a writing and research consultant to graduate students and professional scholars.

Since moving back to the US after many years abroad, I’ve focused even more heavily on the teaching/mentorship aspect of my career. I’m still an archaeologist (hence the theme of this site!) but I’ve always aspired to continue my own academic journey in a way that allows me to help impart the wonder and adventure of education to others. Merv Academic represents my own pursuit of that aspiration, and I look forward to working together as you pursue your own academic journey!

I’ve included a teaching resume below, as well as a link to some of my archaeological research.
